Quick and easy cataloguing

TopCat works with The Book Detective, BookMaster and Senior Librarian to make entering your stock quick and easy. It is a CD-ROM database of books and other media published in the UK.

How TopCat works

When you have set up TopCat with your library software package, you just scan in the ISBN barcode from the book cover, or type it in. If TopCat finds the ISBN, the details of the item appear on the screen. You can save the details and enter the next book immediately, or edit the details and then save them.

Descriptions are included

For most titles, TopCat includes a description of the contents. This is invaluable for helping you to decide on which keywords to enter when cataloguing.

The description is saved with the catalogue record and is shown when the item details are displayed.

Coverage

TopCat covers titles published in the UK and the Republic of Ireland in the past 25 years. A number of forthcoming publications up to 2 years in advance are also included. Since library collections are very diverse, we cannot guarantee 100% coverage, but our regular TopCat users testify to its value in making cataloguing a quicker and easier task.

An update of TopCat is published three times per year.

Versions

TopCat is on CD-ROM, and is available in four versions. All versions include fiction titles.

• TopCat Junior contains over 1.2 million items, selected for pre-school and junior level readers.
• TopCat Senior contains over 5 million items at secondary / high school and college level, as well as general-interest items.
• TopCat Classic contains over 4.4 million general and advanced-level publications.
• TopCat Pro contains over 6.7 million advanced and specialist publications.

It is your choice which version of TopCat you use in your library - all versions are compatible with any Cadomel library software package.

For prices and shipping costs, please download our current price list. UK and other EU customers please add 17.5% VAT to total.

Please note that any import and local taxes levied in your own country are not included in our prices.
